Store Cattle

Hexham and Northern Marts held its weekly sale of 269 catalogued cattle from across the North of England. Vendors were once again treated to competitive rates with forward cattle once again easily sold and in high demand.

The sale entry was dominated by native breeds throughout, but it was Charolais cross steers from Mr E Potts, Ednorville, Ryton that took the top honours, selling to £1780.00 & £1710.00. A stylish, black Limousin cross heifer consigned by Messrs R Sinton & Son, White House, Birtley sold to £1670.00.

One of the sale highlights was an outstanding run of seventy Angus cross steers raised in the shadows of Alnwick Castle from Richard and Lance Green, Heckley High House. This second helping from Heckley High House went on to top at £1580.00 for a pen of three and fourteen other pens breaking the £1500.00 barrier.

Another distance traveler taking advantage of the Hexham store ring was SWS Agri Services, Arnold House, Penrith who sold 14-month dairy bred Blue cross heifers to £1380.00 & £1360.00. The same home sold Angus cross steers out of the dairy mother to £1450.00.

A handful of young bulls forward this week sold to £1200.00 for an Angus from Messrs CA & J Watmore, Low Farnham, Sharperton. More young bulls can easily be sold to vendors’ advantage.
