Store Cattle
Hexham and Northern Marts held its weekly catalogued sale of 160 Store Cattle and Suckled Calves, with cattle entered from across the North of England and as far South as Norfolk and East Anglia.
Trade was just as strong as previous weeks or even possibly a touch stronger, especially for the better end of store cattle. This saw fabulous returns for producers, with some seeing a rise of £190/head on cattle they sold earlier in the week.
Two steers led the honors board this week, first to hit the £1860.00 mark was a heft Charolais x steer from Messrs L R Carmichael & Son, Berwick Hill and then secondly a Limousin x steer from Messrs G H Walton & Sons, Greyside.
Heifers peaked at £1770.00 twice, this time it was Limousin x heifer from Messrs G & EA Herdman, Lunns House and again Messrs G H Walton & Sons, Greyside were back at it, selling a British Blue x to the same value.
Younger, yearling cattle once again sold away well and very easily cashed. The pick of the trade was an outstanding run of yearling stores from Messrs G H Walton & Sons, Greyside, whose steers peaked at £1550.00 for a Limousin x and heifers the same age sold to £1460.00.
Twelve-month-old Dairy bred British Blue x heifers from Messrs J & SM Ivison, Cooper House Farm sold extremely well to £1300.00 for a pen of four, proving all classes are easily sold here at Hexham with purchasers for all types of cattle.
