Store Cattle & Sheep

Store Cattle

Hexham & Northern Marts held their final sale of store cattle and suckled calves with a catalogued entry of 354 which included the monthly special sale of native bred cattle.

A varied show forward to see the year out, with something for everyone. Older, more forward cattle once again extremely easily cashed, as were native bred heifers.

Leading the sale with a marvelous Limousin cross steer was Messrs W Patterson & Son, Halton Red House that went on to sell for a whopping £1840.00. Geoff & James Ogle, Blackburn brought their usual stamp of forward continental steers, selling Limousin crosses to £1760.00.

Angus cross steers sold to £1660.00 from Messrs DA & P Burn & Sons, Aydonshields.

Quality continental heifers were in short supply this week, taking the top spot for heifer trade was a pure Limousin from Messrs J & F Hartley & Son, Low Shipley, realising £1540.00.

One of the highlights of the days was a cracking run of twenty four Angus cross and Simmental cross steers aging 16-18 months from mid Northumberland producers AJ & R Ord, Newton Greens. Selling Angus cross steers to £1455.00 and Simmental crosses to £1540.00.

A very small selection of yearlings and weaned calves this week that sold well. Year old Angus cross heifers from Messrs B W & GE Tailford, Beacon Rigg sold to £1325.00. Whilst 7 month old Limousin cross heifers from GA & DE Thompson, Howburn, Alston sold to a respectable £960.00.

On behalf of the Directors and all the Mart staff, thanks must go to all vendors and purchasers from throughout the year for their support and we wish you all a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year. Entries now taken for our opening sale of 2023 on the 6th January.
