Store Cattle

Hexham and Northern Marts held its weekly catalogued sale of 270 store cattle and suckled calves. The first sale back after the jubilee celebrations of last week. With it being later in the season and vendors now getting to the tail end of their spring offering, the quality of cattle would be slightly more mixed than previous weeks. Trade throughout the sale was buoyant with all classes selling well and the poorer, plainer end of cattle especially selling well this week with many surpassing vendors’ expectations, leaving a sale average of £1103.66 for all classes.

The sale got off to a flyer with Messrs Woodman, Great Chesters selling some fantastic Limousin and Charolais cross heifers I pen one and the day’s top price came out of this pen with the first beast of the day, a Limousin cross heifer selling to £1680.

Limousin cross steers sold to £1650 twice from the Messrs T G Temple & Son, Ingoe Low Hall.

One of the day’s sale highlights was a tremendous run of twenty-one yearling Limousin cross steers and heifers from Messrs G H Walton & Sons, Greyside Farm that sold to a high of £1540.00 for an outstanding heifer whilst steers sold to £1370, leaving a very healthy average of £1240.24.

With cattle number tightening and trade firming, we urge you to call our auctioneers to discuss marketing any cattle you are thinking of selling. More can be sold to vendor’s advantage. Entries now taken for next week’s sale.
