Brian is married to Lizzie and has a son Philip (26) who after spending a year in Australia now works in the farming industry in Cumbria
Brian joined Hexham Auction Mart from school in 1972 and worked in the office for four years before graduating on to selling at farm sales and the annual may term furniture sale at Bellingham. That experience must have put him in good stead as he now runs highly popular and successful quarterly sales at Rothbury selling a mixture of antiques and collectables to a large and varied clientele who travel from far and wide to attend.
Brian counts himself privileged to have sold every category of livestock at Hexham over the years. As well as store sheep regularly through the season, where the change to selling on a Friday has developed the store lamb sale into one of the most prominent in the North, he sells store cattle and sucklers, cull ewes, prime sheep on occasions and has also sold the prime cattle and cull cows. In the autumn Brian sells breeding ewes and gimmers and most breeds of ram throughout the season as well as having sold for a number of years at Kelso Ram Sales.
Apart from all the above and the varied day to day interest that the job gives, Brian was made Company Secretary in 1993 and his many duties involve keeping the company records and minutes, shareholders details etc.
Brian enjoys walking in his spare time and in 2004 walked the entire 84 miles of Hadrians Wall in 3 days raising over £6500 for cancer research.
Mr Robert Whitelock.

John grew up on Pundershaw farm situated North West of Wark. Pundershaw is a small holding running 100 head of commercial Swaledale ewes. In younger days John worked for neighbouring silage contractors, NS & C Robinson throughout the summer months. At the age of 20 he approached Hawes Auction Mart for the position of trainee auctioneer.
After starting this position in January 2007 he learned clerking, office and yard duties before advancing to the rostrum for the first time on 15th May 2007. John was promoted to the position of head cattle auctioneer. He was responsible for organising sales, sponsors, sale catalogues and procuring the stock for sale. During this period John dramatically increased the cattle numbers, introducing new sales and ventures. The highlight was the introduction of the sale of show and commercial cattle to Hawes in May 2007. John also had the experience of selling breeding sheep in the autumn, including selling Swaledale tups for £26,000.
John keeps a small flock of pedigree Swaledale ewes that run at the Scarhouse flock of Mr JR Blades of Hawes. This small flock has produced the local breed champion at the Moorcock show and champion gimmer lamb at Muker show.
John spent 4 enjoyable years learning the trade at Hawes. He joined the team at Hexham and Northern Marts in September 2010. He currently sells the store and breeding sheep, and the breeding cattle.
In Johns spare time he is a very keen sportsman playing football for two local teams, Barrasford and Wark. He also enjoys shooting, golf and horse racing
